Founder and Director, PMG: Mental Performance Dojo

Dr. Hector Morales-Negrón is a dynamic and innovative applied performance psychology consultant and coach, leveraging mental performance strategies to build success as an athlete, coach, and leader. His journey reflects resilience and determination—arriving in the U.S. as a non-English-speaking private, the Army’s lowest rank, he rose through the ranks to retire as a Lieutenant Colonel and Academy Professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Dr. Morales-Negrón draws from over 30 years of leadership, teaching, and athlete development experience to help athletes, coaches, scouts, and professionals unlock their full potential by mastering their thoughts, actions, and behaviors. He is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Leadership and Military Service
   As an Army officer, Dr. Morales-Negrón led at every level, from platoons and companies to battalion and division-level staff, successfully supporting multiple peacekeeping and operational missions. His tenure as an Academy Professor at West Point included directing over ten physical education courses, managing budgets, coordinating personnel, overseeing transportation logistics, and running facility operations. He was the Director of Combatives Certification and the Director of Personal Fitness. 

Coaching Success: Judo and Combatives
    In athletics, Dr. Morales-Negrón has been instrumental in cultivating a warrior ethos, perseverance, and mental toughness among student-athletes. As head coach of the West Point Judo program, he led the team to its first National Collegiate Judo Championship in 50 years. He also coached the U.S. Armed Forces team to six World Military Championships and certified thousands of cadets and soldiers as Army combatives instructors.

Mental Performance Consulting and Baseball Development
    As a certified mental performance consultant, Dr. Morales-Negrón has worked with non-profit organizations to support minority student-athletes in strengthening the mental aspects of sports and academics. His expertise extends to instructional, travel, and collegiate baseball programs, empowering parents, players, and coaches to grasp key elements of peak performance. Certified through OnBase University in pitching and hitting fundamentals, Dr. Morales-Negrón understands how the connection between the mind, body, and heart drives optimal athletic performance.

 

    As Director of Mental Performance and  International Development for the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Club, Dr. Morales-Negrón oversees the development of international professional baseball players and serves as a personal mental performance coach to athletes and coaches at all levels within the organization.
